There’s a new carp in town.
A black carp was caught in April in the Illinois River south of Peoria, more than 100 miles farther north that the species has ever been recorded, according to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
While the numbers of black carp remain very low — only a few dozen have ever been caught in Illinois waters — it’s an invasive species that could, in greater numbers, have a serious effect on native wildlife. Click on the following sentence to access the full story.
