Agriculture is the largest industry and employment sector in the United States, and invasive species are the largest threat to the industry.
WBAL-TV 11 News went to Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport to see what U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents are trying to keep out of the country and what they are looking for.
“We are the last line of defense to the U.S. to make sure we’re preventing any kind of foreign animal diseases, foreign pests coming into the country. We need to make sure we stop it here,” CBP Area Port Director Dianna Bowman said. Click on the following sentence to access the full story.
CBP Baltimore Assistant Director David Ng, an agriculture specialist, said much factors into what they’re looking for, including disease status of a certain country and the season, or foods associated with certain holidays. Ng said he has seen it all.
